This started off as a piece to express Keith Jarrett’s rich emotional language in his Rio album. The more I worked on it I became obsessed with rich textures and fine lines that were forming as I built up the layers. I was intrigued by them and they made me think of synapses in the brain as the send their chemical messages throughout the body. I decided to steer away from expressing the music and further developed this new language that was developing.

Perpetual Motion explores the use of line and color to create rhythm and convey the sense of constant movement in a static image. For each work I select a track of music that I play in a constant loop throughout the painting process. This allows me to get swept into the music so that I can use its rhythm and melodies to help orchestrate the painting's composition.
